## Biography

Ted Tetzlaff (born Dale Herbert Tetzlaff) was an American cinematographer and film director. He began his career in the 1920s as a lab and camera assistant, working his way up to director of photography on numerous films through the 1930s and 1940s. He was particularly associated with Carole Lombard, photographing her in ten pictures.

Among his notable credits as cinematographer are *My Man Godfrey* (1936), *Remember the Night* (1940), *I Married a Witch* (1942), *The Talk of the Town* (1942) – for which he received an Academy Award nomination – *You Were Never Lovelier* (1942), *The More the Merrier* (1943), *The Enchanted Cottage* (1945) and *Notorious* (1946). He was the son of racecar driver and stuntman Teddy Tetzlaff.

After serving in the US Army during the Second World War, Tetzlaff turned to directing, helming around a dozen films between 1947 and 1959. His best-known work as director is the film noir *The Window* (1949).
