He was born José Tenoch Huerta Mejía on 29 January 1981 in Ecatepec, State of Mexico. Huerta began acting in the mid-2000s after studying with María Elena Saldaña, Carlos Torres Torrija and Luis Felipe Tovar. His early film roles include appearances in *Sin Nombre* (2009) and *El Infierno* (2010). He later played Rafael Caro Quintero in the Netflix series *Narcos: Mexico* (2018). Huerta portrayed Namor in the Marvel film *Black Panther: Wakanda Forever* (2022), for which he received an NAACP Image Award.
