In *The Spirit of the Beehive* (1973), Teresa Gimpera makes a mother difficult to approach without making her easy to dismiss. Her Teresa shares with Fernando Fernán Gómez’s Fernando a reserve that leaves the children at a distance. Víctor Erice does not turn that remoteness into an accusation. Teresa Gimpera Flaquer was a Spanish actress and model. Born in Igualada, Barcelona, in 1936, she began her career as a model working with photographer Leopoldo Pomés before making her film debut in *Fata Morgana* (1965). She appeared in numerous Spanish films during the 1960s and 1970s, including *The Spirit of the Beehive* (1973) as Teresa, *Count Dracula* (1970), *The Legend of Frenchie King* (1971), *The Night of the Devils* (1972) and *And Then There Were None* (1974).

Gimpera was associated with the Escola de Barcelona and the gauche divine cultural scene. She also worked in television and received awards including the ACE Award for best supporting actress in 1990 and the Creu de Sant Jordi in 2017. She was married to American actor Craig Hill from 1990 until his death in 2014. Gimpera died in Barcelona in 2024.
