Terry McDonell is an American writer and producer. He wrote episodes of the television series *Miami Vice* (1984), including 'Back in the World' and the teleplay for 'Over the Line', and contributed to *China Beach* (1988). He also wrote the video game *Night Trap* (1992).

McDonell was born on 1 August 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine, and has had a long career as a magazine editor, including as managing editor of *Sports Illustrated*.
