Thad Mumford was an American television writer and producer. Born Thaddeus Quentin Mumford Jr. on 8 February 1951 in Washington, D.C., he died on 6 September 2018 in Silver Spring, Maryland. He began his career writing for children's television, including *The Electric Company*, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1973. He also contributed songs and voiced a character on *Sesame Street*.

Mumford wrote and produced for *M*A*S*H* in its final three seasons, often collaborating with Dan Wilcox. His other credits include *ALF*, *The Cosby Show*, *A Different World*, *Home Improvement*, *NYPD Blue* and *Judging Amy*. He worked on both predominantly Black-cast series such as *Good Times* and *Maude* and programmes with largely white ensembles.
