## Biography

Thelma Connell (credited early as Thelma Myers) was a British film editor. Born Thelma Balle Dunaway in London on 30 June 1912, she began her career as a continuity girl before working as an assistant editor on films including *The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp* (1943). Her first major editing credit came on Noël Coward and David Lean's *In Which We Serve* (1942).

She edited numerous British productions, often collaborating with directors such as Frank Launder, Sidney Lumet and Lewis Gilbert. Her credits include *Green for Danger* (1946), *The Blue Lagoon* (1949), *The Hill* (1965), *Alfie* (1966) — for which she received a BAFTA nomination for Best Editing, the first for a woman in the category — and *Endless Night* (1972). She was the original editor on *You Only Live Twice* (1967) before being replaced. Connell also produced episodes of the television series *The Adventures of Robin Hood* and co-directed the 1954 film *Tale of Three Women*. She died in Monaco on 29 April 1976.
