## Biography

Theodore St. John (1906–1956) was an American writer, actor and director who worked in film, radio and theatre. He served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946, attaining the rank of first lieutenant.

St. John received an Academy Award for Best Motion Picture Story in 1953, shared with Fredric M. Frank and Frank Cavett, for his contribution to Cecil B. DeMille's *The Greatest Show on Earth* (1952). He also received screenplay credit on the film, and later wrote the screenplay for *Fort Algiers* (1953) as well as episodes of early television series including *Front Page Detective* (1951) and *The Ford Television Theatre* (1953). Earlier in his career he appeared in several Broadway productions and wrote plays.
