Theresa Rebeck is an American playwright, television writer and novelist. She was born on 19 February 1958 in Kenwood, Ohio, and holds degrees from the University of Notre Dame and Brandeis University, including a PhD in Victorian melodrama.

Rebeck wrote episodes for *NYPD Blue* in the mid-1990s, for which she received a Writers Guild of America Award, an Edgar Award and a Peabody Award. Her other television credits include *Law & Order: Criminal Intent* and the series *Smash*, which she created. Film work includes the story for *Catwoman* (2004), the screenplay for *Harriet the Spy* (1996) and contributions to *The 355* (2022). She is also a prolific playwright with multiple Broadway productions.
