Thomas Ellis Gibson (born 3 July 1962) is an American actor and director. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, he trained at the Juilliard School after early work in children's theatre and an internship at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.

Gibson made his feature-film debut as Stephen Chase in *Far and Away* (1992). He played Carl in Stanley Kubrick's *Eyes Wide Shut* (1999) and appeared in *The Age of Innocence* (1993) and *Men of War* (1994). On television he is known for Daniel Nyland in *Chicago Hope* (1994–1997), Greg Montgomery in *Dharma & Greg* (1997–2002) and Aaron Hotchner in *Criminal Minds* (2005–2016). He has also directed episodes of several series.
