## Biography

Thomas M. Disch was an American science fiction writer, poet and critic. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he attended Cooper Union and New York University before working as a copywriter and beginning to publish short stories in science-fiction magazines in the early 1960s.

He wrote numerous novels, including *The Genocides* (1965), *Camp Concentration* (1968), *334* (1974) and *On Wings of Song* (1979). Disch also wrote the children's book *The Brave Little Toaster* (1986), which was adapted into an animated film, and the episode 'Missing Hours' of the television series *Miami Vice* (1984). He received a Hugo Award for nonfiction and multiple nominations for the Nebula and Hugo awards.
