## Biography

Thomas Rickman (also credited as Tom Rickman) was an American screenwriter, director and playwright. Born in Sharpe, Kentucky, he trained at the AFI Conservatory as part of its first class.

He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for *Coal Miner's Daughter* (1980). His other screenwriting credits include *Hooper* (1978), *Everybody's All-American* (1988), *Bless the Child* (2000) and the television films *Truman* (1995) and *Tuesdays with Morrie* (1999). He also directed the feature *The River Rat* (1984) and episodes of *The New Alfred Hitchcock Presents*.

Rickman taught screenwriting at the AFI and for many years at the Squaw Valley Community of Writers alongside his AFI classmate Gill Dennis.
