## Biography

Thomas Stanford was an American film and television editor. Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, he was educated in Switzerland and England, attending Malvern College. He began his credited work as an editor in Hollywood with Suddenly, Last Summer (1959) and went on to edit about sixteen feature films.

Stanford won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for West Side Story (1961). He collaborated with director Sydney Pollack on The Slender Thread (1965), Jeremiah Johnson (1972) and The Yakuza (1974), and with Mark Rydell on The Fox (1967) and The Reivers (1969). Other credits include Hell in the Pacific (1968), The Legend of the Lone Ranger (1981) and Split Decisions (1988). He died in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2017.
