## Biography

Thyra Samter Winslow was an American short story writer, novelist and film story writer. Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, she attended the University of Missouri School of Journalism and briefly studied at Columbia University and the Cincinnati Art Academy. She worked as a chorus girl, actor and dancer in Chicago before becoming a feature writer for the Chicago Tribune.

Winslow published more than 200 short stories, many in *The Smart Set*, *The American Mercury* and *The New Yorker*. Her collections include *Picture Frames* (1923), *People Round the Corner* (1927) and *My Own, My Native Land* (1935). In the mid-1930s she moved to Hollywood, where she contributed to film treatments and screenplays, including *She Married Her Boss* (1935) and the treatment for *Four Daughters* (1938).

She was married to John Seymour Winslow (divorced 1927) and later to Nelson Waldorf Hyde. Winslow died in New York on 2 December 1961.
