## Biography

Tim Krabbé is a Dutch novelist, journalist and screenwriter. Born in Amsterdam in 1943, he studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam before becoming a professional writer in 1967. He is also a chess player who competed in the Dutch championships and a former competitive cyclist.

Krabbé wrote the 1984 novella *Het Gouden Ei* (published in English as *The Golden Egg* or *The Vanishing*), on which the 1988 Dutch film *Spoorloos* (international title *The Vanishing*) was based. He co-wrote the screenplay with director George Sluizer. The story was remade in English in 1993, again directed by Sluizer. His other novels include *De Renner* (*The Rider*, 1978) and *De Grot* (*The Cave*, 1997).

His brother Jeroen Krabbé is an actor and film director. Krabbé maintains a website on chess curiosities.
