## Biography

Tim O'Brien is an American writer. He was born on 1 October 1946 in Austin, Minnesota. He served in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970.

O'Brien is the author of novels and stories drawing on his wartime experiences, including *Going After Cacciato* (1978) and *The Things They Carried* (1990). He joined the writing staff of the television series *This Is Us* for its third season and co-wrote the 2018 episode 'Vietnam' with Dan Fogelman.
