## Biography

Timothy Yip Gam-Tim, also credited as Tim Yip or Yip Kam-Tim, is a Hong Kong production designer, art director and costume designer for film, theatre and opera. He graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic with a degree in photography and began working in film in 1986 as executive art director on John Woo’s *A Better Tomorrow*.

He is best known for his work on Ang Lee’s *Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon* (2000), for which he served as both production designer and costume designer. The film brought him an Academy Award for Best Art Direction and a BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design. His other notable film credits include production design on *Once Upon a Time in China III* (1993), *The Promise* (2005), *The Wayward Cloud* (2005), *Tai Chi Zero* (2012) and *Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms* (2023), as well as costume design on *Red Cliff* (2008).

Yip has collaborated with directors including John Woo, Ang Lee, Chen Kaige, Feng Xiaogang and Tsai Ming-liang. He has also designed for opera productions such as *Lohengrin* at the Metropolitan Opera and *Dream of the Red Chamber* at San Francisco Opera, and works across visual art, photography and stage design.
