## Biography

Ting Shan-hsi (also credited as Erh Yang, David Ting and Ting Shan-si) was a Taiwanese film director and screenwriter. Born in Qingdao, he trained at the National School of Arts (now National Taiwan University of Arts) before entering the industry.

He began his career at the Shaw Brothers Studio in Hong Kong, where he worked as a screenwriter and assistant director. His early credits include the screenplay for King Hu’s *Come Drink with Me* (1966). He later directed more than fifty films, primarily in Taiwan, across genres including wuxia, war dramas and historical epics.

Ting received the Golden Horse Award for Best Director in 1971 for *The Ammunition Hunters*. He died in Taipei in 2009 and was posthumously awarded a Golden Horse lifetime achievement award in 2011.
