## Biography

Tom Araya is a Chilean-American musician who appears as himself in music documentaries. He is the vocalist and bassist of the thrash metal band Slayer, which he co-founded in 1981 and with which he remained until its initial retirement in 2019.

Araya is credited as Self in *Anvil! The Story of Anvil* (2008). He also appears in *Metal: A Headbanger's Journey* (2005), *Global Metal* (2008) and *The Big Four: Live in Sofia* (2010). Born in Viña del Mar, Chile, in 1961, he moved to the United States as a child and worked as a respiratory therapist in the early 1980s.
