## Biography

Tom Dugan (1 January 1889 – 7 March 1955) was an Irish actor who appeared in more than 260 films between 1927 and 1955. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he moved to Philadelphia as a child, attended high school there and began his career in vaudeville and minstrel shows before performing in musical comedies and on Broadway.

Dugan entered films in the late silent era and appeared in *Lights of New York* (1928), the first all-talking feature. He typically played small supporting roles, often as Irish policemen, gangsters or cab drivers. His most prominent screen part was as the Polish actor Bronski in Ernst Lubitsch's *To Be or Not to Be* (1942). Other credits include *The Best Years of Our Lives* (1946) and *On the Town* (1949). He died in Redlands, California, following a road accident.
