## Biography

Tom Eyen (1940–1991) was an American playwright, lyricist, television writer and director. He wrote the book and lyrics for the Broadway musical *Dreamgirls* (1981), with music by Henry Krieger, which won the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical.

Eyen was known for his work in the 1960s Off-Off-Broadway experimental theatre scene, where he formed the Theatre of the Eye company. He also wrote for television, including the series *Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman* (1976–1977). His songs from *Dreamgirls* were featured in the 2006 film adaptation.
