## Biography

Tom Jones, born Thomas John Woodward on 7 June 1940 in Trefforest, Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales, is a Welsh singer and actor.

His career began with a string of top-ten hits in the mid-1960s. He has sold over 100 million records, with 36 UK Top 40 hits including "It's Not Unusual", "Delilah" and "She's a Lady". Jones received a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1966 and was appointed OBE in 1998 and knighted in 2005.

He made his acting debut in the 1979 television film *Pleasure Cove* and appeared as himself in Tim Burton's *Mars Attacks!* (1996). He also hosted the television series *This Is Tom Jones* and received a Golden Globe nomination for the role in 1970.
