## Biography

Tom Mankiewicz was an American screenwriter, director and producer. Born in Los Angeles in 1942, he was the son of writer-director Joseph L. Mankiewicz and the nephew of Herman J. Mankiewicz. He studied drama at Yale University after attending Phillips Exeter Academy.

Mankiewicz received screenplay credit on the James Bond films *Diamonds Are Forever* (1971, shared with Richard Maibaum), *Live and Let Die* (1973) and *The Man with the Golden Gun* (1974, shared with Maibaum). He also contributed to *Superman* (1978) as a creative consultant and wrote the screenplays for *The Eagle Has Landed* (1976), *Ladyhawke* (1985) and *Dragnet* (1987).

He directed the feature films *Dragnet* (1987) and *Delirious* (1991), and worked on the television series *Hart to Hart*. Mankiewicz died in Los Angeles in 2010.
