## Biography

Tom Smuts is an American television writer and producer. A Pittsburgh native, he holds a BA from the University of Michigan and a JD from Harvard Law School. He worked in media and internet businesses before moving into television writing.

Smuts began as a story editor on *The Guardian* (2003–2004) and *Eyes* (2005–2007), and wrote episodes for *Law & Order*, *Close to Home*, *The Good Wife* and *Memphis Beat*. He joined the writing staff of *Mad Men* in 2013, contributing two episodes and serving as co-producer and producer through 2015. He later wrote and produced for *Timeless* (2016–2018), *Bosch* (2015–2016), *The Alienist* (2018–2020) and *The Last Thing He Told Me* (2023–2026).

Smuts has received Writers Guild of America recognition for his work on *Mad Men* and Emmy nominations as a producer on the series. He is married to producer Meredith Stiehm.
