## Biography

Tom Whedon was an American television writer and producer. He began his career as one of the original writers on the children's series *Captain Kangaroo* (1955) and later worked on *The Dick Cavett Show* and as head writer on *The Electric Company* (1971), for which he shared a Primetime Emmy Award in 1973.

Whedon wrote episodes of *Alice* (1976), *Benson* (1979) and *It's a Living*. He served as supervising and co-executive producer on *The Golden Girls* (1985), for which he received Primetime Emmy nominations in 1990 and 1991, and wrote several episodes. He later wrote for the children's series *Between the Lions* (1999), earning a Daytime Emmy nomination. His father, John Whedon, was also a screenwriter; his sons include writers Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Zack Whedon.
