> Tomer Russo is persuasive as a man trying to do his job while events make that nearly impossible. His understated acting suits Amos Gitai’s ensembles; *Kippur* is the place to see why that quiet competence matters.

In *Kippur* (2000), the first-aid team has work to do while the battlefront remains dangerous. Tomer Russo plays Ruso alongside Liron Levo’s Weinrub and Uri Klauzner’s Klausner, and the performances keep our attention on people trying to be useful in conditions they cannot control. Russo is convincing within that group, without needing to stand apart from it. We were shaken by the first-aid scenes because someone’s need for medical help never makes the work of providing it any safer.

His television work began in the mid-1990s, but *Kippur* was his breakthrough leading role and established his association with director Amos Gitai. The collaboration continued through *Kedma* (2002), *Alila* (2003), *Free Zone* (2005) and *Disengagement* (2007). He is known for his roles in films directed by Amos Gitai, including *Kippur* (2000) as Ruso, *Kedma* (2002) as Milek, the Israel segment of *September 11* (2002) as a paramedic, *Free Zone* (2005) as border security, and *Disengagement* (2007) as Tomer.
