## Biography

Tommy Godfrey (20 June 1916 – 24 June 1984) was an English comedian and actor. He was born in Lambeth, London, and began his career as a tap dancer in variety shows, first with his sister and then as part of the act Godfrey, Randall and Deane. He later performed as a solo comedian and appeared as principal boy in pantomimes.

Godfrey made his film debut as a bus conductor in *Passport to Pimlico* (1949). As a character actor he appeared in occasional films through the 1950s and 1960s, with greater success in the 1970s. His television credits included regular roles in the sitcoms *On the House* (1970), *Love Thy Neighbour* (1972–1976) and *Mind Your Language* (1977–1979), as well as appearances in *The Avengers* (1963) as Arturo, *The Saint*, *The Persuaders!* and other series. He died in London in 1984.
