## Biography

Tommy Tune is an American actor, dancer, singer, theatre director, producer and choreographer. Born Thomas James Tune on 28 February 1939 in Wichita Falls, Texas, he trained at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a BFA in drama in 1962, and at the University of Houston, where he received an MFA in directing.

He made his Broadway debut in 1965 in the chorus of *Baker Street*. His film credits include the role of Ambrose Kemper in *Hello, Dolly!* (1969) and Tommy in *The Boy Friend* (1971); he later appeared as Argyle Austero in the television series *Arrested Development*. Tune is primarily known for his work on Broadway, where he has won ten Tony Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, as well as the National Medal of Arts.
