## Biography

Toni-Leslie James is an American costume designer working in theatre, film and television. She designed the costumes for the film *Rustin* (2023) and the stage musical *Come from Away* (2021).

She holds a BFA in theatre from The Ohio State University. James has designed numerous Broadway productions, including *Jelly's Last Jam* (1992), *Bernhardt/Hamlet* (2018) and *Jitney* (2017). She received the Irene Sharaff Young Masters Award and the 2009 Obie Award for Sustained Excellence in Costume Design, as well as a Drama Desk Award for *Bernhardt/Hamlet* and three Tony Award nominations.

James has also worked in television on series such as *Whoopi* and *As the World Turns*, and has taught costume design at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Yale School of Drama, where she is resident costume designer for Yale Repertory Theatre.
