## Biography

Tony Church (1930–2008) was an English actor whose career spanned stage and screen. A founder associate member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1960, he performed regularly with the company until 1987 and later took leading roles in Peter Hall productions at the National Theatre. He was educated at Hurstpierpoint College and Clare College, Cambridge.

On screen, Church appeared as Parson Tringham in Roman Polanski's *Tess* (1979) and as Turold in *Krull* (1983). He also voiced Civil Servant #3 in the animated film *The Plague Dogs* (1982) and played the Minister in an episode of *The Professionals* (1977). His television work included roles in *Lillie* (1978) and the BBC Television Shakespeare productions.

In addition to acting, Church served as founding artistic director of the Northcott Theatre in Exeter from 1967 to 1971 and as director of drama at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from 1982. From 1989 he was Dean of the National Theatre Conservatory in Denver, Colorado.
