## Biography

Tony Garnett was a British film and television producer. Born Anthony Edward Lewis on 3 April 1936 in Erdington, Birmingham, he died on 12 January 2020.

He is best known for his long collaboration with director Ken Loach. Their joint credits include the television play *Cathy Come Home* (1966) and the feature film *Kes* (1969), on which Garnett also received a screenplay credit. He later founded World Productions and produced series including *Between the Lines* (1992–1994), *This Life* (1996–1997) and *Ballykissangel* (1996–2001).

Garnett’s other producing credits include the films *Family Life* (1971), *Earth Girls Are Easy* (1988), *Follow That Bird* (1985) and *Beautiful Thing* (1996). He wrote the memoir *The Day the Music Died* (2016).
