## Biography

Tony Morphett was an Australian screenwriter. Born Anthony David Morphett on 10 March 1938 in Granville, New South Wales, he began his career as a journalist with the Daily Telegraph and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation before becoming a freelance writer in 1968.

He wrote or co-wrote seven feature films, including the screenplay for *The Last Wave* (1977) with Peter Weir and Petru Popescu. Morphett created or co-created several Australian television series, among them *Dynasty*, *Certain Women*, *Blue Heelers* and *Water Rats*. He also contributed to mini-series such as *Bangkok Hilton* (1989) and series including *Heartbreak High* (1994). He died on 2 June 2018 in Katoomba, New South Wales.
