## Biography

Tony Wharmby is a British-born American television director and producer. He was born Philip Anthony Wharmby on 1 November 1940 in Southampton, Hampshire, England. He began his career directing episodes of the British soap opera *Coronation Street* in 1968 and went on to direct and produce numerous UK series, including *Dempsey and Makepeace* (1985).

Wharmby later worked extensively in American television. He directed episodes of *Miami Vice* (1984), *JAG*, *The X-Files* (2000–2002; also serving as producer on several), *Providence*, *Without a Trace*, *Supernatural*, *The O.C.*, *Bones* (where he was co-executive producer), *Gossip Girl* and multiple episodes of the *NCIS* franchise. He is the father-in-law of composer Debbie Wiseman.
