## Biography

Tony Williamson (18 December 1932 – 19 June 1991) was a British television writer. Born in Manchester, he contributed scripts to series including *The Avengers* (1961) and *Z-Cars* (1962) from the mid-1960s onwards.

He wrote primarily for action-adventure and espionage programmes. Williamson contributed to *The Avengers* across several seasons, worked as script editor on *Adam Adamant Lives!* (1966), and wrote episodes of *Department S* (1969), *Jason King* (1971) and *The Persuaders!* (1971). He also wrote the screenplay for the film *Night Watch* (1973).

Earlier in his career he wrote for soap operas such as *Coronation Street* and *Compact*. He is credited with creating the short-lived series *Intrigue* and *Counterstrike*.
