## Biography

Tracy Newman is an American television writer and producer. A founding member of the improvisational comedy troupe The Groundlings, she began her screenwriting career with writing partner Jonathan Stark. Their first staff writing job was on the tenth season of *Cheers* (1982).

Newman and Stark went on to write for *Bob* (1992), *The Nanny* (1993), *Ellen* (1994) and *The Drew Carey Show* (1995). They won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Peabody Award for co-writing the 1997 “coming out” episode of *Ellen*. In 2001 they created the sitcom *According to Jim*, which ran for eight seasons. Newman has also worked as a singer-songwriter.
