## Biography

Tresa Hughes (1929–2011) was an American stage, film and television actress. She was born in Washington, D.C., graduated from Wayne State University after attending the Maryland Institute College of Art and Johns Hopkins and George Washington Universities, and made her Broadway debut in 1959 as understudy to Anne Bancroft in *The Miracle Worker*.

Hughes enjoyed a Broadway career spanning more than 30 years, appearing in productions including *The Devil's Advocate* (for which she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play in 1961), *The Man in the Glass Booth*, *The Prisoner of Second Avenue* and *The American Clock*. Her film credits include *The Hospital* (1971), *The Sentinel* (1977), *Coming Home* (1978), *Fame* (1980) as Mrs. Finsecker, *Bad Medicine* (1985), *Don Juan DeMarco* (1994) and *A Fish in the Bathtub* (1999). She also appeared in episodes of *Law & Order*, *NYPD Blue* and *Ed*.
