Trevor Griffiths was an English writer and dramatist. Born on 4 April 1935 in Ancoats, Manchester, he died on 29 March 2024 in Yorkshire. He studied English at the University of Manchester and worked as a teacher and BBC education officer before turning to writing.

Griffiths wrote for stage and screen, with credits including the screenplay for the film *Reds* (1981) and episodes of the BBC series *Play for Today* (1970–). His stage play *Comedians* premiered in 1975 and transferred to Broadway. He also created the ITV series *Bill Brand* (1976).

A Marxist writer, Griffiths focused on political themes in works such as the stage play *The Party* (1973) and television dramas. He received an Academy Award nomination for the screenplay of *Reds*.
