## Biography

Tsai Kuo-jung is a Taiwanese screenwriter, film critic and journalist. Born in 1951, he graduated from the National Academy of Art with a degree in drama and motion pictures. He began writing screenplays in 1977 and has worked on films, television dramas and theatrical productions, later serving as editor-in-chief of the Taiwan Cinema Yearbook and as a teacher at his alma mater and Shih Hsin University.

He is best known for co-writing the screenplay for *Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon* (2000) with Wang Hui-ling and James Schamus. The film received nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards and the Golden Horse Awards. Earlier credits include the screenplay for *Calamity of Snakes* (1982), and he has received an Excellent Screenplay Award in 1987 along with further television writing credits.
