## Biography

Tudor Gates (2 January 1930 – 11 January 2007) was a British screenwriter, playwright and trade unionist. He began his career in stage management in the early 1950s and wrote in his spare time. His first television play, *The Guv'nor*, was broadcast in 1955 (or 1956), after which he became a full-time writer.

Gates wrote or co-wrote screenplays for films including *Barbarella* (1968), *Danger: Diabolik* (1968), *The Vampire Lovers* (1970), *Fright* (1971), *Lust for a Vampire* (1971) and *Twins of Evil* (1971). He also contributed to television series such as *The Sweeney* (one episode, 1975) and *Strange Report*. In the mid-1970s he returned to the stage with successful West End plays including *Who Saw Him Die?* (1974) and *Who Killed Agatha Christie?* (1978). A lifelong trade unionist, he served as president of the Association of Cinematograph Television and Allied Technicians and later as vice-president of BECTU.
