Ty Burrell is an American actor. He was born on 22 August 1967 in Grants Pass, Oregon, and trained at Southern Oregon University, where he earned a BA in theatre arts, and Pennsylvania State University, where he received an MFA.

Burrell is best known for playing Phil Dunphy on the ABC sitcom *Modern Family* (2009–2020). For the role he won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and five Screen Actors Guild Awards. His other credits include film roles in *Black Hawk Down* (2001), *Dawn of the Dead* (2004), *National Treasure: Book of Secrets* (2007) and *The Incredible Hulk* (2008), and voice work in *Finding Dory* (2016) and *Mr. Peabody & Sherman* (2014).
