Born in Portland, Oregon, he is best known for co-authoring the science fiction series *The Expanse* with Daniel Abraham under the joint pseudonym James S. A. Corey. The novels were adapted into the television series *The Expanse* (2015–2022), on which Franck and Abraham served as writers and producers. Franck previously worked as a personal assistant to George R. R. Martin and has contributed to Martin's *Wild Cards* shared universe.
