## Biography

Uma Dasgupta, later known as Uma Sen, was an Indian actress born on 12 September 1941 in Pabna, Bengal, British India (now in Bangladesh). She is known for her sole major film role as Durga Roy in Satyajit Ray's *Pather Panchali* (1955).

She was cast at around the age of 12 or 14 after being noticed performing in a school play. The film was her only screen appearance. Dasgupta later graduated from Jogamaya Devi College, an affiliate of the University of Calcutta, and worked as a school teacher in the nursery and primary sections at Jadavpur Vidyapith in Kolkata from 1984 until 2000.

She died in Kolkata on 18 November 2024.
