## Biography

Valerie Harper was an American actress. She began her career as a dancer, appearing in the corps de ballet at Radio City Music Hall and in Broadway musicals including *Li'l Abner* (1959). She later performed with the Second City improv troupe in Chicago.

Harper played Rhoda Morgenstern on the series *The Mary Tyler Moore Show* (1970–1977), winning three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She starred in the spin-off *Rhoda* (1974–1978), for which she received a fourth Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She later starred in the sitcom *Valerie* (1986–1987).
