## Biography

Valeriy Karen was a Soviet screenwriter and actor. He graduated from the film studies faculty of VGIK in 1955 and worked as an editor at Mosfilm, later becoming chief editor of the studio’s first creative association.

His screenwriting credits include *Zolotye vorota* (1971), *Soviel Lieder, soviel Worte* (1976), *Moya lubov-revolutsiya* (1981), *Revue na zakázku* (1982) and the Scheherazade films *I eshchyo odna noch Shakherazady* (1985), *Novye skazki Shakherezady* (1987) and *Poslednyaya noch Shakherezady* (1988). He also appeared as General Ivan Bagramyan in several war films, including entries in the *Liberation* series (1971) and *The Great Battle* (1973).

Born in 1931 in Yerevan, Karen was married to actress Tatyana Konyukhova; the couple later divorced. He died in 1992.
