## Biography

Vera-Ellen (born Vera-Ellen Rohe) was an American dancer and actress. She began dancing as a child and became one of the youngest members of the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. She made her Broadway debut in 1939 in the musical *Very Warm for May* and appeared in several stage productions before moving to film.

Her screen debut came in 1945 in *Wonder Man*, opposite Danny Kaye. She is known for her dance partnerships with Gene Kelly in *On the Town* (1949), in which she played Ivy Smith, and with Fred Astaire in *Three Little Words* (1950) and *The Belle of New York* (1952). Other notable films include *White Christmas* (1954) and *Love Happy* (1949). She retired from acting in the late 1950s.

Vera-Ellen was born on 16 February 1921 in Norwood, Ohio, and died on 30 August 1981 in Los Angeles.
