## Biography

Vernon Harris (26 February 1905 – February 1999) was a British screenwriter. Born in Folkestone, Kent, he began his career in radio at the BBC, writing for series including *PC 49* and *Band Waggon*.

Harris frequently collaborated with director Lewis Gilbert, often serving as script editor. He wrote the screenplay for the musical film *Oliver!* (1968), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. His other credits as writer include *Three Men in a Boat* (1956), *Friends* (1971) and *Paul and Michelle* (1974). As script editor he worked on *The Spy Who Loved Me* (1977) and *Moonraker* (1979).
