## Biography

Victor Alix (1886–1968) was a French composer and conductor. He wrote numerous operettas, songs and light orchestral works, as well as scores for early sound films.

Born in Cherbourg, he was the son of an organist. His stage works include the operettas *Princesse Lily* (1921), *You-You* (1922), *Lulu* (1922) and *Les Bleus de l'amour* (1926). He co-composed the original orchestral and choral score, with Léo Pouget, for Carl Theodor Dreyer’s *The Passion of Joan of Arc* (1928), prepared for the film’s Paris premiere.

Alix also supplied music for films including *Le Défenseur* (1930) and *Azaïs* (1931). He received the Prix Joubert in 1941, the Prix Labbé in 1948 and the Prix Centenaire in 1950.
