He served as cinematographer on one episode of the series *Miami Vice* (1984). His feature credits include director of photography on *Lean on Me* (1989), *Major League II* (1994), *Billy Madison* (1995), *Heavyweights* (1995), *Down Periscope* (1996), *Big Stan* (2007) and *Firehouse Dog* (2007), as well as additional photography on *Rocky V* (1990).

Hammer has been director of photography on more than 300 episodes of the series *NCIS: Los Angeles* (2009–2023).
