## Biography

Victor Heerman (also credited as Victor Eugene Heerman) was an English-American screenwriter, film director and producer. Born in Surrey, England, he began his career writing and directing short comedies for Mack Sennett before moving into feature films.

He directed the Marx Brothers' *Animal Crackers* (1930) and collaborated frequently with his wife Sarah Y. Mason on screenplays. Their joint work includes *Little Women* (1933), for which they received the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, *Stella Dallas* (1937), *Magnificent Obsession* (1935) and *Golden Boy* (1939). He also contributed to later adaptations such as *Little Women* (1949). Heerman died in Los Angeles in 1977.
