## Biography

Victor Milner, A.S.C. (sometimes credited as Victor Miller) was an American cinematographer. Born in New York City on 15 December 1893, he died in Los Angeles on 29 October 1972. He began his career as a newsreel cameraman before moving into feature films, working initially with companies including Metro and Universal, and later spending much of his career at Paramount from 1925.

Milner photographed more than 130 films. Among those for which he is known are *Trouble in Paradise* (1932), *Design for Living* (1933), *Cleopatra* (1934), *The Lady Eve* (1941), *The Palm Beach Story* (1942), *The Strange Love of Martha Ivers* (1946), *Unfaithfully Yours* (1948) and *The Furies* (1950). He received ten Academy Award nominations for cinematography, winning once for *Cleopatra*.

He was a founding member of the American Society of Cinematographers and served as its president from 1937 to 1939. Milner retired after *Jeopardy* (1953).
