## Biography

Victor Young was an American composer, arranger, violinist and conductor. He studied violin at the Warsaw Conservatory and later in Paris, and began his career as a concert violinist before moving into popular music, radio and film scoring.

Young scored more than 300 films, many for Paramount Pictures. Among his best-known scores are those for *Shane* (1953), *The Quiet Man* (1952), *Around the World in 80 Days* (1956), *Johnny Guitar* (1954), *Rio Grande* (1950), *Gun Crazy* (1950), *The Greatest Show on Earth* (1952), *Samson and Delilah* (1949) and *The Uninvited* (1944). He also wrote numerous songs, including 'Stella by Starlight'.

He received 22 Academy Award nominations and won the award for Best Original Score posthumously for *Around the World in 80 Days*.
